Car smashes through Taco Bell drive through, hits gas line – Chico Enterprise-Record

CHICO — A vehicle crashed through a drive through lane at a Taco Bell on East Avenue in Chico around noon Thursday.

The Chico Police Department received notice of a collision at the business at 757 East Ave. at 11:50 a.m. Cmdr. Brian Miller said only one vehicle was involved in the incident, which led to damage to the drive through and resulted in the vehicle hitting the building’s gas line.

Six Chico police officers along with Chico firefighters and PG&E employees were called to the incident by 12:15 p.m. to turn off gas and clean up the area.

“Ordinarily it would have been minor but when you hit the gas line, at that point once we get that word it initiates safety protocol,” he said.

In addition, due to the close proximity of the Child Services Division building, Miller said it was important to keep all youths and social workers at least 100 yards away or indoors.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident, and the driver, a male, “was walking around fine,” Miller said.

No cause for the incident is yet known, Miller said. It has not been confirmed if there were other passengers in the vehicle.
